For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
No, that’s not a Rock n’ roll band nor onomatopoeia it’s just onomatology for the title. A collection of words literally not metaphorically. We had an excellent turnout for the week of July 4th and the break in the weather had every golf cart on the Turfgrass last weekend.
Let’s get straight in to it. The Grind is daily attempting to produce quality ergonomic output given the resources on hand and six very important resources were stolen from my shop. I felt the same way when July 6th that I did when my Titleist golf clubs were stollen out of my office the Monday after the Masters in 2015. We had four Sthil weedeaters taken and two backpack blowers from our agronomy center.
My office window slides open side to side was breached. Curt Geron put the wooden bars up during his tenure but they popped it right off. Someone knew exactly where to go and the Deputy thinks it was two Generation Z kids that recently fired them selves. Five days in a row of no call no show equates job abandonment.
The good news is that the playing conditions will mirror the British Open this week and you can come on out to Foxfire and enjoy the same experience for a much better price! Another positive note is that we saved money on fuel and labor this week by not utilizing these resources. Actually, we will attempt to trim the bunkers today and probably have most of them finished by mid day Saturday. We also saved money by having both sand Pro machines down. Jim ordered the parts for the John Deere 1200 A Infield Pro and John Deere sent the wrong part. The UPS entity lost the secondary package. Now we will get free shipping. Isn’t this amazing so far!
Second, we are out of plant protectants but I was able to order more Wednesday and I should receive a delivery phone call soon. Thank you Pauley for the case of Secure. We were able to treat the bentgrass tees and fairways this week and will have enough left over to spray greens. Secure is a BMP product which means low use rate and broad spectrum contact suppressant. It’s great to have good neighbors and serve on the board with the local Supertindent Chapter.
We stretched the last application an extra three days. I wait until I see breakthrough then apply to save money. This is Sclerotinia homoeocarpa or dollar spot.
Next, we have several pieces of equipment broken down. Watch the video below in one minute. I missed the Workman in the video but it needs a clutch and Jim will get that in quicker than anyone else I know.
Third, the heat is returning and we have to have phosphites to prevent Pythium blight. As of right now we do not have any on hand. I usually apply 1.83 ounces per M which is a light rate but has worked so far in conjunction controlling the physical hydraulic conductivity of the water supply. A lower Ph aides in efficacy and longevity of the chemistry. Stretching dollars makes cents.
Fourth, we had many fish die in the irrigation lake due to the oxygen levels dropping. This happened after the fourth because of thermodynamic principles. The pond flipped with the weather. Extreme temperature inversions will cause this to happen. I usually get asked the question, “What did you do or dump in the lake?” Well, if I do not have any products to treat the turf I certainly do not have extra stuff to dump in the ponds. On to, the above photos are the pond on 11 Players Club. The pond lost most of its water due to a Muskrat digging through the side of the bank. The lake valve is broken so we will let God fill the lake. The muskrat trapper will be here Saturday to catch and relocate. We have mitigated the hole.
Fifth, the Players Club Pump failed early Wednesday morning and Wednesday night due to the pump start relay tripping and blocking the variable frequency drive from operating. Long story short is one motor is wearing out and we need to purchase the spare pump from Rodney at The Country Club of Muirfield. Vince L. notified me that Mid-Ohio could help install it if we bought it. Thank you for coming out yesterday. It’s always great to see you sir.
Vince I will call you in a little while to update the status. When ET rates are high it is vital to have water. We may need to order a retro pump start relay if the adjustment to this one does not work. I’m not going in to details on mega hertz ohms etc. I’ll save that for another post.
Continuing, field adjustments equal data adjustments. Thank you Joel Braun Technical Choice for the quick assist on the Dos data transfer in the hydraulic tree.
In order to run all the heads on Players Club the water time window is now from 8:30 PM to 10:45 AM EST. The flat line across the graph is Players with maximum output decreased to 450 gallons per minute which is approximately 12 sprinkler heads. The spike in the graph is the Foxfire Golf Course with two pumps and motors. We can put more water out with two pumps than one in a shorter time frame. Foxfire has less sprinklers automated because the fairways are center row brass quick couplers. Nevertheless, all are factors in calculations.
Last, and certainly not least. We will begin adding sand to the bunkers. I will let you know which holes when we dump the sand in it. 😀 We have a pile of sand and I will go in to more detail in the next post about depth compacting, and penetrometers. It’s a beautiful sand we got from a mine in southern Ohio. Thanks Sam for finding the dump truck & driver. Saving money by getting it ourself.
Bishop did not set the parking brake. Violation of Agronomy Standard Operating Procedure 13.2-duh huh. And he’s in the penalty box!
Felix 93 got stuck on a tree stump on 14 Players. Gary will be here Friday to Grind! There ya have it. I utilized my Title in some order.
PS Thanks Mr. President for the greens mower wheel. The wheel fell off the greens mower Saturday and I had to go shopping at Pinnacle Golf Club. Thanks again Mike T.
Thank you for your prayers! See you on the course! Darden
